               Guild Announcements:

July 2010

Our July meeting will be at the Museum of Printing History Saturday, July 10, at 10 a.m.
This is a change from our usual first Saturday due to the 4th of July holiday.

Former Guild president and member Kent Kessinger will be presenting a program on wood engraving which will include a brief historical background, explanation of tools, demo, and hands-on engraving for meeting participants.  Kent has a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri, an MA in Speech from San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the proprietor of  River Birch Press, a private press,  in College Station and has exhibited at numerous universities and galleries.

Reminder:  We are planning to assemble the 2011 calendar at the October meeting.

This month's calendar page is by Joe Devries.  Joe used handset metal type (Coronet) for the text and numbers, and a brass embossing die for the image.  It can be found in the Guild's collaborative 2010 Calendar.  Each month of the calendar is printed by a different Guild member, using the techniques and paper of his or her choice.  Once printed, all of the calendar pages are assembled and placed in CD jewel cases for display.  This is the third  annual Guild calendar.  To see the calendar pages for all of 2010, click here.  To see the calendar pages for all of 2009, click here.
